On October 5, 2023, I led a workshop-conference at the Cégep de l’Outaouais as part of the course Materiality and Immateriality. This meeting offered a critical [re]visit of the exhibition Création[tiret]Recherche, exploring the connections between artistic practice and research approaches, as well as the tensions between the tangible and the immaterial in contemporary art.

The Exhibition Création[tiret]Recherche: Between Process and Experimentation
This exhibition highlighted works that question the relationship between artistic creation and the production of knowledge. Through different practices – installation, photography, digital art, performance – the exhibiting artists proposed a reflection on the materiality of the creative process and the immaterial forms of art, such as thought, concept, or digital trace.
An Interactive Conference on the Stakes of Materiality in Art
During this workshop, I guided students through a critical reading of the exhibition, addressing several central questions:
- How does contemporary art redefine the materiality of the artwork?
- What place does the immaterial occupy – the idea, memory, the digital – in the creative processes?
- How does research in art transform our perception of materiality and the artistic object?
A Dialogue Between Research and Artistic Teaching
This workshop allowed students to experiment with an analytical and sensory approach to works, growing both theoretical reflection and sensory experience. The discussion also highlighted the intersections between research-creation and artistic practices, situating them within a broader reflection on the evolution of media and contemporary artistic forms.
