Navigating the Complexity of Creation: My Experience with Collectif 2J2R (February 6, 2023)

On February 6, 2023, I had the honor of participating in the first study day “Thèse en création, interprétation ou conception : un objet complexe” (“Thesis in Creation, Interpretation, or Design: A Complex Object”), organized by ACCRA UR3402 at the University of Strasbourg. My presentation, titled “Collectif 2J2R, Thèse en création#1 – Atelier 1” (“Collectif 2J2R, Practice-Based Thesis#1 – Workshop 1”), explored the challenges and innovations of research-creation within the academic framework.

Diving into Research-Creation

As part of Collectif 2J2R, our presentation focused on hybrid processes of creation and research, where artistic production and academic reflection meet and intertwine. We discussed the methodologies used to effectively integrate artistic practice within academic theoretical frameworks, emphasizing the importance of this approach in pushing the boundaries of knowledge.

Interactions and Feedback

The session, co-organized by Grazia Giacco and Chiara Palermo, offered a dynamic space for exchange between artists, researchers, and students, all engaged in navigating the often-blurry zones of research-creation. The discussions that followed our presentation revealed strong interest in interdisciplinary approaches and highlighted the value of innovation in academic thinking.

Personal and Academic Implications

Participating in this workshop not only strengthened my own practice as a researcher-creator but also broadened my understanding of the potentials and challenges of research-creation. It was a valuable opportunity to reflect on my work in a collaborative context and to receive critical insights that will shape my future research.

This experience at the University of Strasbourg allowed me to contribute to a growing dialogue about the value and role of creation in the academic world. It underscored the importance of research-creation as a vital field for the future of higher education and knowledge production.
