Navigating Exhibition Spaces in Cégeps: A Dynamic Overview (May 3, 2022)

On May 3, 2022, I had the privilege of co-presenting with Professor Catherine Nadon at the conference on research in Visual Arts Education, organized by the Department of Art Education at Concordia University and the CRÉA (Collective Research Laboratory on Arts Education). Our presentation, titled “Portrait des espaces d’exposition intégrés dans les cégeps et des activités qui y sont associées” (“Portrait of Exhibition Spaces Integrated into Cégeps and the Activities Associated with Them”), explored the function and impact of these spaces on arts education at the college level.

The Importance of Exhibition Spaces in Cégeps

In our presentation, we discussed how cégeps incorporate exhibition spaces to enrich students’ educational experience. These spaces not only serve as venues for displaying artworks, but also function as active practice sites where students can experiment with their own creations and receive critical feedback.

Interaction and Reception

The presentation was well received, generating strong interest among educators and administrators present, who were eager to explore innovative practices in arts education. The questions posed following our talk highlighted the growing interest in pedagogical approaches that more deeply integrate exhibition as a component of artistic learning.

Personal and Professional Reflections

Sharing this research with fellow educators and researchers was both enriching and affirming. It allowed me to highlight the importance of exhibition spaces within visual arts programs and to reflect on best practices for their pedagogical use.

Participating in this conference not only strengthened my understanding of the role of educational infrastructure in the arts, but also broadened my perspective on innovative teaching methods. This experience emphasized the crucial role of exhibition spaces in the formation of future artists and creators, and encouraged continued reflection on their optimization.
