Lecturer (2019-2020 and 2022-2023)

As a lecturer at the University of Quebec in Outaouais, I had the opportunity to teach the course Image and Society (ARI1043) online in 2019-2020 and 2022-2023. This experience allowed me to explore the issues of image creation, dissemination, and reception in our contemporary societies, while developing teaching strategies suited to online education.

Pedagogical Objectives and Teaching Approach

This course aimed to provide students with a critical understanding of the roles and responsibilities of image creators, as well as the historical and social contexts that influence their perception. My approach was structured around several areas:

  • Image Analysis and Reception: Study of the functions of images (advertising, propaganda, religious, etc.) and their cultural impact.
  • Critical Reflection: Development of an analytical approach towards visual representations and the ethical issues they raise.
  • Study of Historical and Contemporary Debates: Exploration of the transformations of images through different periods and media.

Methodology and Topics Covered

The online format required an interactive pedagogy based on:

  • Readings and Case Studies: Drawn from contemporary visual culture.
  • Artwork and Visual Campaign Analysis: To put the concepts into practice.
  • Regular Discussions via Forums and Videoconferences: To encourage interaction and discussion.

Impact and Lessons Learned

By teaching this course on two occasions, I was able to observe the evolution of students in their ability to decode images and formulate critical thinking about their role in society. This experience also allowed me to improve my skills in distance education and the design of interactive courses, further strengthening my commitment to transmitting knowledge about images and visual culture.

This role as a lecturer confirmed my interest in university pedagogy and my desire to continue exploring the impact of images in our contemporary societies.
