In December 2024, I co-edited, with Carmelle Adam, the conference proceedings Si les choses étaient différentes, nous ferions autrement, a project developed in collaboration with Galerie UQO. This publication brings together critical reflections and analytical essays examining the artistic practices of Geneviève Matthieu.
Overview
Si les choses étaient différentes, nous ferions autrement explores the question of performance art in Quebec and the place occupied within it by the practice of the artist duo Geneviève Matthieu, through the major curatorial project developed by Carmelle Adam and Marie-Hélène Leblanc. The project consisted of a retrospective exhibition, an artist residency, a prospective exhibition, and a symposium centered on the practice of Geneviève Matthieu. Through a series of lectures, performances, analytical texts, and photographic documentation included in the publication, the volume offers an opportunity to intertwine theoretical reflection with Canadian and Québécois performance practices, while engaging broader questions related to curatorial practice, theatre, music, performance art, installation, and the self-critical examination of the art world.
